6th March, 2007 - Biomed Get-Together

We have helped launch our first Biomed BBQ Get-Together for the year which was a great success! We had more than 100 students turn up to socialize with the academics and each other. Please have alook at the pictures of the event here!

13th February, 2007 - Helped with O-Day for the new biomeds!

14 May, 2007 – Election

We held our annual election and biomedical students elected their new committee.
The new committee members for 2007-2008 are:

Secretary – Jasmine Lim
Treasurer – Nieves Felipe
Events Coordinator and Public Relations Officer – Chris Phillips

28 May, 2007 – Biomed Hoodies

MABS organised hoodies for biomedical students. Please see photo gallery for pictures of the hoodies.

15 June, 2007 – Inauguration of the new committee and appreciation awards

MABS held a formal ceremony along with fellow academics to inaugurate the new committee. Speeches were given by the outgoing president Niloufer Johansen and the new president Yazh Mahizhnan. Both thanked the academic staff for their support in estabilishing MABS.

Appreciation awards were given to members of the outgoing committee for their hard work and to newcomers Ho Aik Hui and Jasmine Lim for their initiative and contribution of ideas. It was an event enjoyed by all.

Semester 2, 2007

1 August, 2007 – Orientation Day

Welcome to the biomeds joining us in second semester! MABS conducted tours and provided information packs for students.

6 & 7 August, 2007 – MABS Fundraising BBQ Sales

With both sales combined we have fundraised over $350 to help fund our activities. Thank you to all those who helped out!

15 August, 2007 – Farewell to Nieves Felipe and Chris Phillips

Due to unfortunate circumstances two of our members Nieves Felipe (treasurer) and Chris Phillips (Events Coordinator and Public Relations Officer) resigned from our committee. We wish them all the best for their future!

20 August, 2007 – New Members!

Two new members have joined the executive committee. Claire Percy will be our Events Coordinator and Public Relations Officer and Kyle Bristol will be our Treasurer.

Congratulations to both of you and welcome to MABS!

24 August, 2007 – T-shirt Saying Competition

MABS organised a t-shirt slogan competition for biomedical students. The slogan has to be about biomedical science and the winner receives a free t-shirt with their saying printed on it. We had also planned to sell these t-shirts to students and will be taking orders soon!

27 August, 2007 – Biomed Get-Together

MABS organised a BBQ for biomedical staff and students and it was a blast! More than 110 people attended the event. A big thank you to everyone who helped out!

Also following on from the t-shirt slogan competition, students voted for their favourite slogan at the event and two winners were chosen!!!

Congratulations to James Hane and Chelsea Back for their creative and innovative ideas!

2 October, 2007 – Swan Brewery Tour and picnic at Heathcote

A Swan Brewery tour and a picnic was organised by the MABS committee for both biomedical and non-biomedical students during the study break. We organised for microbiologists to talk to our students about the scientific aspects of making beer. The tour ended with beer tasting! After the tour we travelled to Heathcote in Applecross for a picnic.

The tour was a massive success with around 20 people joining us. Please see the photos from the tour in the photo gallery.

22 October, 2007 – Farewell lunch for third year biomedical students 

A farewell lunch was organized by the MABS committee for the third year biomedical students. The distinguished guests who attended the lunch were our Dean, Professor Edwards, Programme chair for Biomedical Science Dr. Cassie James, Dr. Wayne Greene, Dr Jim Cummins, Chris Marcinowski, and Ms. Alexandra Semmens. The event was held under the pergola in the Veterinary courtyard. All third years received a key ring as a special gift from MABS thanks to Professor Edwards. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we hope it will be a tradition that lasts a long time!

30 November, 2007 – Biomed t-shirts

MABS distributed biomed t-shirts that had sayings printed on them from the t-shirt saying competition. These t-shirts were extremely popular and more than 40 were sold!

Special thanks to James Hane and Chelsea Back for their slogans and Ho Aik Hui and Kyle Bristol for using their computer skills for the slogans.

 4 December, 2007 – Farewell to Ho Aik Hui (John)!

Our beloved Vice-president John has left Murdoch University and has moved to Adelaide where he will be continuing his studies. John is one of the hardest working people we have had on our committee since the establishment of MABS. The executive committee held a small party for him. He will be dearly missed and we wish him all the best for the future!

31 December, 2007 – Change in structure of MABS

During the committee meeting today it was decided that the executive committee will comprise of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. After many changes this year, the following people are part of the executive committee and will continue to serve the biomedical students till the end of semester one 2008:
