- Biomed Common room

The biomedical common room is for the use of all biomedical students. It is located adjacent to the anatomy museum on level 1 of the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences building. The common room is exclusively for biomedical students who wish to relax on the couches, use the computer to check emails and CE6 and use kitchen facilities to heat their meals. Also in the common room are lockers for students to use during the year. The room is also used by MABS as a conference room to hold meetings and plan events.

 

Thanks to all the staff and MABS members who were involved in the renovation of the common room, biomedical students can now chill out in a relaxing atmosphere.

 

- Useful Facilities

Kitchen facilities:

We have a microwave, fridge, electric kettle and a very long sink for students to prepare or heat their meals.

 

Lockers:

Students who wish to keep their books in a safe place during the day are welcome to use the lockers located in the biomedical common room and those located next to the notice boards on level 3 of the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences building. Students have to provide their own locks during each semester and remove them at the end of each semester.

 

Wireless connection:

In the common room there is wireless connection for students who wish to use their laptop.

 

- Social Events

As a student organization that is run by students for students, MABS organizes social events for biomedical and non-biomedical students.

 

Biomed get togethers:

At the beginning of every semester MABS organizes a biomed get together which is a free BBQ for all biomedical students and staff. Biomedical students from all years are welcome to mingle with each other and also with the friendly biomedical staff. It’s a great way to meet other biomeds especially if you are new. The BBQ is held in the Veterinary Biology courtyard which is located adjacent to the Biomedical Science common room.

 

Other events:

Every semester MABS organizes another event away from the university. In the past we have organized tours to Swan Brewery and picnics, which have been very popular with students.

 

For the first time MABS organized a farewell lunch for third year students last year and gave them key rings as special gifts. We hope this will become a lasting tradition.

 

- Communicating with other biomedical students

When biomedical students log into CE6, they will be given access into the biomedical science community website. Students can discuss any questions, interesting subjects or simply post up notices. MABS will often post notices regarding events in the community site.
