Peter Irwin teaches internal medicine of dogs and cats and consults in the Small Animal Clinic of the Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital. Peter joined Murdoch University in November 1998 after two years teaching at the Universiti Putra Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Before that he was Registrar in Small Animal Medicine at the Melbourne University Veterinary School.

His research interests are in infectious and parasitic diseases of small animals, especially disorders of dogs and cats in the tropics. He is currently researching the vector-borne diseases of dogs, babesiosis and ehrlichiosis. Peter is Director of the Australasian Centre for Companion Animal Research, one of the three School Research Centres.
